NON+ FAMILY

“Good design is noticeable, perfect design is invisible.”

“A jó design feltűnő, a tökéletes design láthatatlan.”

This time, Petra Hoffmann selected her favorite styles from our spring collection. Petra and I have been working together on NON+'s communication tasks for over a year, she also runs her own design shop and is constantly working on implementing new ideas. We talked about our work together and the path that led us to this point.

- What do you do, how would you introduce yourself?

- I graduated from MOME with a degree in design theory, and I consider design-related tasks to be my vocation. 10 years ago I founded Stilblog , now one of the most well-known design-themed online magazines, in connection with which we regularly organized fairs and various events, discussions, and lectures in previous years. A year and a half ago we opened Stilshop in Bálna, where we offer small-series, handmade products by Hungarian designers. I also deal with design communication: we have been working together with NON+ for a year and a half. It so happened that I am motivated by new ideas and their implementation, so in addition to permanent tasks, new projects are constantly appearing, which always hide exciting challenges and allow the discovery of new areas.

- What do you like most about your job?

- It's precisely this diversity, variety, and the enormous freedom that this kind of independence means. Continuous development is very important to me. New challenges allow me to explore new areas and meet new people. Every day I learn something new about situations, people, and of course, about myself. It's important for me to operate by my own rules. My dad says I'm self-sufficient, and he's probably right, but that's exactly why I became this way - I imagine that I know what's best for me, and this is also true in professional matters. It's great, for example, that I don't have a boss, that is, I'm my own employee, which can be quite tough, because my working day is obviously not 8 hours, but at the same time, I can always take half a day off.

- How did you get in touch with NON+?

- This is an old story, dating back about ten years. At that time, I was working at the Mobili Mania furniture studio , and Saci was also doing interior design work, so he came to us a lot to select furniture and accessories. I immediately liked his strong professionalism, stylish demeanor, and I found this kind of independence in the way he worked incredibly cool. We have talked a lot with Saci over the past few years, and to this day I can still recall phrases and inspiring thoughts from him that encouraged me to find my own path, do my own thing, be brave and believe that it will work. It is largely thanks to these conversations that I finally dared to step forward and embark on the realization of my own plans, which took a lot of courage. I have followed the brand's journey practically from the very beginning, and Saci's dedicated sense of purpose has always been incredibly motivating for me. This is not the first time we have worked together in recent years, but I feel that by now the brand's true microenvironment has been formed, somehow things have come together in such a way that I can perfectly find my place in it, and I hope that the results of my work are becoming increasingly spectacular.

- How would you describe your own style?

- It happened about ten years ago that shades of grey started to attract my eye. It wasn't a conscious decision at all, it just happened that way, there was even a moment of recognition when I walked into a clothes shop in Brixton and headed towards grey colours without thinking. I accepted this, and it's been like that ever since, all my clothes are grey, black and white, 80% of them NON+ - haha! Really! It's as if Saci was designing these pieces for me, she always hits on what I feel good in. The principle of less is more is a core value for me too, and not only for dressing, but I think it applies to most areas of my life as well: I'm not interested in unnecessary decorations and gestures, but I like to see the essence as clearly as possible, which of course is usually not to be found on the surface. Last Christmas, I received a perfect quote from Saci regarding this, which goes like this:"Good design is striking, perfect design is invisible." In this spirit, I will try to remain invisible to the best of my ability.
