" In my work, I explore the forms and rhythms of nature and our environment. Repetition creates a kind of order that radiates tranquility - for me, this is one of the fundamental pillars of creation. " - Interview with Malinovka designer Judit Szolnoki-Szendrődi, textile pattern designer for NONPLUS' new collection

As a designer of Malinovka paper products, can you tell us how your collaboration with NONPLUS began?
What characterizes your work together, what is the creative process like when you work together?
During previous joint projects, I always felt that we think very similarly about design and object creation. Saci and I speak the same language and our visual worlds can easily and fruitfully meet. In professional matters, clean, simple lines are important to both of us, we love functionality, we both believe in the 'less is more' principle. And deep down in professional matters, perhaps our inner worlds are kept in motion and in balance by very similar forces.
How did you experience the process, especially your first experiences in textile printing?
When Saci approached me with the idea of using my bird drawings to make textile patterns for a new collection, I immediately said yes, because such a collaboration had been a long-cherished dream of mine. Every phase of the design process – from the development of the patterns to the preparation for printing – was permeated with care and a special excitement. Because although I have 15 years of experience in prepress, textile printing was a new area for me. When I finally got to hold the textile sample that arrived from the factory in my hands, it was a special, penetrating moment. And it was exciting to see the pieces of the finished collection, that while the graphics on paper are static, on a textile the pattern is in constant motion – it truly becomes full of life as someone wears it.
What characterizes your work, and how does it reflect your personal values and vision?
In my work, I explore the forms and rhythms of nature and our environment. Repetition creates a kind of order that radiates tranquility – for me, this is one of the pillars of creation. There is something meditative in patterns and repetition that liberates and inspires. I usually work in sketchbooks and then process them digitally, but I like to preserve the spontaneity of hand drawings and the raw formal details found in nature. Observation – be it the flight of a flock of birds – calms me and brings me back to the present. This is the state of mind that I experience during the creative processes: self-forgetfulness, freedom and the joy of endless possibilities.
How does it feel to see the finished collection?
It's incredibly heartwarming. Each piece bears the imprint of our collaborative work, where the clean character of NONPLUS and my bird pattern create a special harmony. I am grateful that I was able to be a part of this wonderful creative process and contribute to the creation of the garments in the new collection.
