"At Skandinavisk, we tell fragrance stories from Scandinavia that aim to have the least possible environmental impact. We are an independent company and have been a Certified B Corporation since 2019, which means we operate responsibly. We have updated all of our products to use local, natural, organic and ethical ingredients."
Skandinavisk was founded by a curious English guy, Shaun, who fell in love with a blonde Scandinavian gardener and never left her. He was joined by a second English immigrant, Gerry, who shared his love of Scandinavia, and a Danish designer, Line, who collected and translated both of their experiences into our distinctive design DNA.
Our company was founded in 2012 in Copenhagen, and our home and body fragrance collections are designed to reflect the Scandinavian art of balance – harmony with nature, society and ourselves.
However, the "Scandinavian way of life" is not just about where you come from in the world, but also about how you think, how you treat others and the nature around you, and what you value. We believe that a more balanced, Scandinavian way of life provides a direction for the future that is increasingly needed in a world that is starting to forget to listen to the quieter voices.
We have always been inspired by the tradition of Scandinavian design – where function comes before form, minimalist aesthetics, and responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices.
We call our fragrances 'chapters' and each chapter has its own name, colour and graphic symbol, many of which can be found in our pattern motifs. Essentially, our pattern motif tells the story of Scandinavia, and each symbol represents one of these chapters.
Our mission
Imagine a vast expanse of land at the end of a long, rocky path.
A land populated by silent forests, silvery lakes, secluded islands, and snow-capped mountains.
Where nature rules and the seasons set the rhythm.
A land larger than Germany, France and Italy, but with a population only a tenth of theirs. Where there are more boats and bicycles than there are owners, and where the border with continental Europe is only sixty kilometers long.
This is a land that has walked its own path and developed a different way of life over the centuries. Where community, awareness, and timeless values like trust, equality, and respect flourish.
Where people place the utmost importance on life balance, community, family and friends, and the shared happiness of everyday life.
Romantic? Idealistic? We don't think so.
This is real.
And something that everyone should experience.
Why do we care?
We don’t believe that you can be truly beautiful if you leave a trail of pollution behind. We are passionate about Scandinavian values, and friluftsliv (love of nature) is in our blood: we cherish our wild places and enjoy exploring our untouched hiking trails, sky-high fjords, clear blue seas and plastic-free beaches. So how could we consciously create products that harm what we love most?
As a leading player in the B Corp Beauty Coalition, AB Beauty adheres to the highest social and environmental impact standards and is committed to working together to create beauty that does good for the world.
Scandinavian sourcing and manufacturing
Our entire personal care collection is made in Sweden. Our candle wax is made from Swedish rapeseed oil. Our packaging is made in Denmark, FSC-certified and mostly comes from managed Swedish forests, where two new ones are planted for every tree cut down.
Vegan and cruelty-free
Our entire collection is free of animal ingredients, and we never test our products on animals anywhere in the world, before, during, or after production. It's that simple.
We combine natural essential oils with safe synthetic ingredients to create unique fragrance compositions that evoke Scandinavia and never require fragrance safety warnings.
More organic ingredients
Organic ingredients are better for the soil and the skin, which is why our personal care collection contains a higher proportion of certified organic ingredients.
Long-lasting home fragrances
Our candle wax is made from Swedish rapeseed oil, which is traceable, sustainably farmed, GMO-free, and has a longer burn time. Our new diffusers feature high-performance reeds and a safer, plant-based, alcohol-free base.
We use post-consumer recycled aluminum tubes for our hand creams, as metal is the most recycled material in the world. Our 500 ml pump bottles are made from recyclable plastic. All our beech wood and packaging cards are FSC certified.
Expanding our recharge options
Our refill solutions for candles, diffusers and toiletries are now available, allowing our customers to enjoy their favorite scents over and over again while leaving a smaller ecological footprint.
Durable design
We create design elements that you can enjoy long after the fragrances have been used up. Our candles’ glass and beech lids are perfect for tealights or for storing spices in the kitchen. Our new diffusers come in taller, clear glass with screw caps, making them ideal for continuous reuse, for example as vases for wildflowers.
Social sustainability
At Skandinavisk, our sustainability mission is centered on people and the planet. Since the refugee crisis, our small company has been giving a chance to one new refugee every year. Two of them are now permanent employees. That's two out of twenty employees in Denmark.
Employing refugees is not part of our business model; it is simply about our global responsibility and how, as a Danish company, we strive to live up to the Scandinavian ideal of leaving no one behind.
We are a certified B Corp.
We are legally obligated to consider the impact of every decision we make: on our employees, customers, suppliers, our community and the planet. It is the highest level of independent corporate certification in the world and a global movement that puts business in the service of good. Skandinavisk has been a certified B Corp since 2019 and is a founding member of the B Corp Beauty Coalition.
